The Daily Magnolia is Louisiana Boys State’s newspaper. With an Citizen editor-in-chief and writers that provide both written content and photos, the newspaper staff is one of the most challenging and rewarding aspects of the Louisiana Boys State Program.
Unlike almost every other position at Boys State, members of the Press are not elected. On the first day of the program, interested Citizens submit writing samples to members of the editorial board (composed of Senior Counselors and Staff) who select the top eight writers – one from each of the eight LABS parishes – to serve as reporters. From among their number, the reporters choose their editor-in-chief who helps coordinate coverage and oversees production of the newspaper and other Citizen media production elements of the program.
