We are excited to welcome your son to Southeastern’s campus this year as we celebrate 85 years of the American Legion Louisiana Boys State program.
Please help make sure he packs appropriately; feel free to share our livestreaming schedule with friends and family; and if your son is applying for the Samsung American Legion Scholarship, note that applications are due prior to on-site registration on Day 1.

Please note that the information below is in draft form and intended only for general reference as we prepare to shift host campus in 2025. Updated and more detailed information will be provided in the weeks leading up to the program.
Arrival and Registration for the 2025 Program
- On-site check-in and program registration is 8:30-11:00 am on Day 1 (Sunday, June 22) at Southeastern Louisiana University.
- Upon arrival at SLU, all students transfer their own luggage from vehicles to check-in to dormitories. Unless otherwise noted as a needed physical accommodation, there is not available staff to assist in carrying belongings.
- Arriving by bus
organized by American Legion district – reach out to your district contact person for additional information- Buses pick up students at designated locations and drop off students at SLU at their coordinated times. If you are not aware of your pickup locations, please reach out to your American Legion representative immediately.
- Students will unload luggage from buses and proceed through registration before proceeding to their assigned dormitory spaces.
- Parent drop-off
- Information will be provided prior to the start of the program, by American Legion district, of assigned arrival times based on travel distance.
- Follow as directed by any instructions from SLU police and staff to designated parking areas. This is a drop-off only. Parents should stay in vehicles.
- Students must bring all their belongings into the registration area. There will not be an opportunity to return to parent vehicles once checked in.
- Self-driving students
- Detailed instructions will be provided prior to the start of the program, by American Legion district, of assigned arrival times based on travel distance.
- Drive to the designated parking areas outside dormitory buildings as provided to you prior to the start of the program and/or as directed by SLU police and staff. You will be directed to the appropriate parking area. Boys State Counselors will direct students to the check-in location. Students will leave luggage in their cars until after they have registered. They will return to vehicles to retrieve belongings prior to moving into their rooms for the week.
- All students who drive themselves to the program must check-in their car keys with Boys State staff after unloading their belongings. Driving during the week is not allowed. Keys will be returned prior to departure on Saturday, June 28.
